Jennie Webster Irie 4-H Scholarship

Jennie Irie was a member of the nation’s first 4-H club started in 1902 in Champaign County, Ohio where she met her future husband at the first meeting of the Agricultural Experiment Club on January 15, 1902. She maintained a great interest in 4-H throughout her lifetime and started this scholarship in 1993. She was pleased to be able to serve on the selection committee for a few years before her passing in 1996 at the age of 103. Mrs. Irie’s daughter, Janet, continued to fund the scholarship fund each year until she passed away in 2021. Applicants must:

  • Be a graduating senior from a high school in Champaign, Clark or Miami County in Ohio
  • Be active in the local 4-H program throughout high school
  • Be accepted to a two-year, four-year, technical school or college or university
  • Demonstrate community service and/or successful employment
  • Financial need will be considered if all else is equal
