Miamisburg Schools Education Foundation - Everett Sweny Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2019 in memory of Everett W. Sweny, honoring his 100th birthday year. Mr. Sweny was a longtime resident of Miamisburg where he served on the City Council and the Board of Zoning Appeals. Originally from Springboro, Mr. Sweny was a star athlete at Springboro High School and is enshrined in their Athletic Hall of Fame. He joined the Army in 1942 and was assigned as a Second Lieutenant to the 3rd Coast Artillery Corps in California, where he met his future wife, Bobbye. He attained the rank of Major before his discharge. He and Bobbye moved to Miamisburg after the War, and raised a family of seven children there. He owned and operated Shirley’s Furniture in Miamisburg for many years, and was the President of the Businessmen’s Association. Mr. Sweny also received the prestigious Melvin Jones award for his long service to the Lions Club. Both Mr. and Mrs. Sweny were very active members of the Miamisburg Historical Society, playing major roles in the Society’s acquisition and rehab of Miamisburg’s Market Square Building and the Historical Village. Mr. Sweny was a great supporter of Miamisburg athletics.
