Vandalia Butler Foundation - Bruce Sucher Memorial Scholarship

Bruce Sucher, a leader in the community, passed away unexpectedly in March of 2017. Bruce was a highly recognized public servant of Vandalia and the surrounding Dayton community. He began his tenure as a Vandalia police officer; he then served as the Chief of Police and City Manager, proudly serving the community for over thirty years. He is one of the past presidents of the Lions Club and the Vandalia-Butler Foundation, and a past board member of the Vandalia-Butler Chamber, and Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. At the time of his passing, Bruce was the President of the Vandalia-Butler School Board, and a member of the Good Samaritan Hospital Board.

This scholarship opportunity will provide tuition assistance to a Vandalia-Butler High School student who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and service within the school and community.

Applicants must:

  • Be a graduating senior from Vandalia-Butler High School in Vandalia, Ohio
  • Be accepted and planning to attend a four-year college or university
  • Have a minimum 3.5 grade point average
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Demonstrate evidence of participation in leadership and/or service activities or organizations, as well as the applicant’s vision for leadership and what makes him or her a good leader as indicated in the written application essay
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities observed by school staff, extracurricular staff, and//or community-based members or other leaders as indicated from letter(s) of reference
