Murl Huffman Scholarship for West Carrollton High School
Murl Huffman’s passion and calling in life was teaching in public schools. This scholarship was established in celebration of his 100th birthday by his family, friends, colleagues, and the many students Murl taught in his 37 years as a social studies teacher at West Carrollton High School and 22 more years as a substitute teacher. Murl’s energy and spirit for seeing the value and potential of all students and for challenging each to be a participant in his or her own life, community, country, and universe is the impetus for this award. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating West Carrollton High School student who shows strong creative and risk-taking abilities—qualities that Murl’s friend Charles F. Kettering advised him were the most important to cultivate in his students. Applicants must:
- Be a graduating senior from West Carrollton High School (WCHS students attending Miami Valley Career Technology Center are encouraged to apply as well)
- Demonstrate innovative and original thinking and/or purpose
